Dawood Ibrahim Allegedly Poisoned: Underworld Don Hospitalised in Karachi, Pakistan

Notorious underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim has purportedly been admitted to a hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, following allegations of poisoning. Recent reports suggest that the mastermind behind the 1993 Mumbai blasts is undergoing medical treatment with heightened security measures in place.

According to sources, Dawood Ibrahim was hospitalized two days ago, although Pakistani authorities have not officially confirmed the incident. It is reported that he is the sole patient on the hospital floor where he is being treated, with access restricted to only senior hospital authorities and close family members of the underworld don.

Indian authorities have consistently claimed that Dawood Ibrahim resides in Karachi's upscale Clifton area. However, Pakistan has long denied providing shelter to the wanted underworld figure, refuting his presence in the country.

In January 2023, Dawood Ibrahim's nephew, Alishah Parkar, informed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) that the underworld don had remarried in Pakistan and was currently living with his family in Karachi.

"Dawood Ibrahim has a second wife, a Pakistani Pathan named Maizabin. He has three daughters, Marukh (married to Junaid, son of Javed Miandad), Mehrin (married), and Maziya (unmarried), and one son, Mohin Nawaz (married)," revealed Alishah Parkar in his statement, which is part of the charge sheet filed by the NIA in November of the previous year.

Dawood Ibrahim is infamous as the mastermind behind the 1993 Mumbai blasts, which resulted in the death of more than 250 people and left thousands injured. In 2003, both the Indian and US governments declared him a "global terrorist."

The notorious underworld figure, along with his infamous D-Company, allegedly established a special unit aimed at instilling terror in the Indian population by targeting prominent personalities, including political leaders and businesspersons, according to statements by the NIA.

The 10th edition of the Global Terrorism Index (GIT) highlights that Dawood Ibrahim and his D-Company continue to exert control over various criminal activities in Mumbai, including drug trafficking, arms trade, and counterfeiting. The report also suggests strong connections between the criminal outfit and global terrorist groups, including al-Qaida.
