South Africa Great Acknowledges Virat Kohli's Crucial Role Ahead of Test Series

The ongoing all-format tour of Team India in South Africa faced an initial setback with the first T20I being washed out in Durban due to rain on Sunday. Looking ahead to the second T20I in Gqeberha on Tuesday, India, led by star batter Suryakumar Yadav, is eager for a strong performance. Following the T20Is and the three-match ODI series, attention will turn to a two-match Test series, where captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and pacer Jasprit Bumrah will join the squad.

Amidst the intense preparations for the upcoming series, legendary Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis emphasized the pivotal role that Virat Kohli's form and knowledge of South African conditions will play in India's success in the Tests.

"I am confident he will want to make a significant impact in South Africa. Given his good form, Kohli will undoubtedly play a major role in India's success. A strong series from him will be crucial for their victory here," remarked Kallis in an interview with Star Sports.

During the last WTC cycle, Kohli emerged as India's highest run-scorer with 932 runs from 30 innings. He continued his impressive form with a century and a fifty in two completed Tests against the West Indies in the current cycle. Kohli's outstanding performance also extended to the ODI World Cup on home soil, where he accumulated a remarkable 765 runs, earning him the Player of the Tournament accolade.

Regardless of the venue, Kallis highlighted Kohli's stature as a massive player and emphasized the value of his experience in South African conditions. Kallis expressed confidence in Kohli's ability to share his insights with the team, particularly the younger players, on managing the conditions and expectations.

At 35, Kohli has two Test centuries against South Africa away from home. India faced a 1-2 loss in South Africa during the last World Test Championship cycle.

Commenting on the upcoming series, Kallis acknowledged the strength of the Indian team but noted the challenge of facing South Africa in their home conditions. He anticipated a closely-fought contest, suggesting that the Centurion pitch might favor South Africa, while Newlands could suit India. Kallis concluded that the series outcome might hinge on one or two sessions where one team outperforms the other, promising an exciting and closely contested battle.
