New Delhi: The Indian Government has issued a notice to the online retail giant, Amazon, accusing it of misleading customers by selling ordinary sweets under the guise of 'Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad'. Amazon is alleged to have been selling these sweets, falsely representing them as offerings from the yet-to-be inaugurated Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. This action follows a complaint lodged by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
Misleading Practices Alleged
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has stated that such practices mislead consumers about the true nature of the products. They are wrongly influenced to buy these sweets, thinking they are genuine prasad from the Ram Mandir, which constitutes a violation of consumer rights. The CCPA emphasized that providing false information on online food products and misleading consumers is a serious issue that can improperly influence their purchasing decisions.
Amazon Given Seven Days to Respond
Specific products listed on Amazon's platform include 'Shri Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad, Raghupati Ghee Laddu, Ayodhya Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad, Khoya Khobi Laddu, Ram Mandir Ayodhya Prasad, Desi Cow Milk Peda'. The company has been given seven days to respond to the notice, failing which action may be initiated under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
Nation Immersed in Devotion
The country is currently immersed in devotion, with the upcoming consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir on January 22, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries will attend. Amidst this atmosphere of faith, some unscrupulous individuals are exploiting people's devotion for profit. Stern action against such exploitation is deemed essential.
