Renowned actor Naeem Sayyed, affectionately known as Junior Mehmood, peacefully departed on Friday at his Khar residence in Mumbai after battling stomach cancer. He was 67.

His family confirmed the sad news, stating, "Junior Mehmood passed away at 2:15 am at his residence. He was suffering from stomach cancer. May his eternal soul rest in peace."

Junior Mehmood's son, Husnain, revealed, "We learned about his fourth-stage stomach cancer only 18 days ago. Despite efforts at Tata Memorial Hospital, the treatment was deemed too painful. The hospital suggested we care for him at home."

Starting his career as a child artist in Mohabbat Zindagi Hai (1966), Junior  Mehmood went on to feature in iconic films like Naunihal, Caravan, Haathi Mere Saathi, and many more. His TV appearances included Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara and Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka. He also ventured into Marathi film production and direction.

Naeem Sayyed earned the moniker Junior Mehmood from the late comedy icon Mehmood after sharing screen space in the 1968 film Suhaag Raat.

The actor's funeral is scheduled for today at Santacruz kabrastan. Junior Mehmood leaves behind his wife Lata and two sons.

Junior Mehmood's cinematic journey began with Mohabbat Zindagi Hai in 1966, where his talent as a child artist shone. The entertainment world embraced him, and he graced the silver screen with notable films such as Naunihal, Caravan, and Mera Naam Joker.
